It's easy to see why Berkeley Heights was ranked 45th in Money
Magazines's 2007 Best Places to Live issue. Nestled in the
scenic Watchung Mountains, it's a community that offers its
nearly 13,000 residents scenic tree- lined streets, comfortable
homes, plenty of recreation and a top-rated school system.
The Berkeley Heights Public School system serves more than 2,800
students. The Early Childhood Center at the Hamilton Terrace
School is designed for pre-kindergarten and first grade
students. Three elementary schools house students from grades
two through five. Columbia Middle School serves grades six
through eight. Governor Livingston High School serves
approximately 1,000 students from Berkeley Heights and the
neighboring town of Mountainside. It was ranked 15th in the top
New Jersey high schools in 2008 by New Jersey Monthly Magazine.
Berkeley Heights offers residents an easy commute to Manhattan
and Hoboken via train or bus. The Berkeley Heights train station
is serviced by the Gladstone Branch of the NJ Transit commuter
rail system serving Hoboken Terminal, Newark Broad Street
Station and Penn Station in Manhattan.
There are a number of parks and recreational activities
available to local residents. Columbia Park features tennis
courts, two baseball fields, several basketball courts and a
large children's play area. The town is home to three swim clubs
- the Berkeley Heights Community Pool, the Berkeley Swim Club
and Berkeley Aquatic. The Watchung Reservation features miles of
horseback riding and hiking trails, picnic areas and a large
lake.
